Outdoor Spaces in Kansas City Designed for Connection, Relaxation, and Entertainment

At Colony West in Overland Park, Kansas, John and Ellen’s backyard went from a rarely used space to a place they can enjoy all year. When they reached out, they had a small, outdated patio and some big drainage issues due to poor slope. We started with a walkthrough to understand their needs and then created a full design package with detailed 2D drawings and 3D renderings to bring their vision to life. The finished space now includes a large covered area with an outdoor kitchen, a gas fireplace, a wood-burning firepit, a ceiling fan, and infrared heaters, making it as functional in winter as it is in summer. Now, they have a backyard where they can relax, enjoy, and create memories with their family.

Prairie Hills

We transformed the outdoor living space at the O’Dea Residence in Prairie Village, Kansas, to match the home’s mid-century modern style. The goal was to create low-maintenance landscaping with walkways that seamlessly connect the front and backyard. In the front yard, we added concrete steppers and decomposed granite walkways with stone edging. For the landscaping, we used a mix of native grasses and perennial plants, chosen to thrive in the Kansas City climate with little watering or maintenance needed.

Falcon Ridge

Josh and Linsey’s backyard at Falcon Ridge in Lenexa, Kansas, has been transformed into a space that combines elegance with everyday functionality. The outdoor kitchen, equipped with Blaze appliances, is perfect for everything from quiet family dinners to lively gatherings with friends. Next to it, the bar table and gas firepit offer a cozy spot to relax. We added retaining walls for structure, a custom artificial turf putting green for a bit of fun, and integrated lighting and sound to set the mood. The paver patios bring it all together with a sleek, polished look, and the landscaping adds a natural touch to finish the space.

Sunset Hill

In the backyard of this Sunset Hill home in Kansas City, Missouri, we created a space that’s perfect for both relaxing and entertaining. The bocce ball court, made with artificial turf and accented with LED landscape lights, is great for games during the day or evening. Next to it, a natural stone patio offers a comfortable spot to sit back or gather with friends. We finished the space with Taylor Junipers and Hydrangea Wee Whites, adding both beauty and privacy. It’s a thoughtful, inviting space built to make the most of your time outdoors.

Mission Hills Fireplace

This custom-built Edwardian-style fireplace, was designed to reflect the timeless elegance of the early 20th century while perfectly complementing the aesthetic of the home. Crafted with a blend of high-quality brick and stunning Indian limestone, this fireplace offers a seamless match to the homes architecture, ensuring a harmonious transition from indoor to outdoor living. The fireplace stands over 20’ tall and 14’ wide, and includes beautiful seating benches along the front and both sides of the fireplace.

Featured in DesignKC, the fireplace features intricate Edwardian detailing, including a classic Indian Limestone archway over the firebox, ornate cornices, and elegant decorative elements, all of which are carefully crafted to evoke the charm of this iconic architectural style. The rich, warm tones of brick paired with the natural texture and color of Indian limestone not only add visual appeal but also promise durability, withstanding the test of time and the elements.
